When I made the pilgrimage to the Moto Guzzi factory in Italy 15 years ago, long before he opened my shop, I zero’d in on the logo on the tank of one particular old race bike in the museum. It featured an elongated eagle and a typeface he hadn’t seen before and hasn’t seen since.

The bike with the distinctive markings—or more accurately an evolution of race bikes from 1946-51—was called Gambalunga. Italian for “Long Legged” this lightweight but wholly primordial race bike was known for its long wheelbase and relatively longer stroke 500cc single-cylinder engine. Technologically, it’s long since been relegated to the Moto Guzzi museum, but the typeface proved to be more enduring.

Friend and collaborator Matias Corea took the unique font and extrapolated the other letters of the alphabet needed to spell out Moto Borgotaro.

“It looks very modern, but is from the 1950’s, and that’s what’s so cool about it,” says Corea. “It was modern then, and is modern today.”

And for just $30, you can have a piece of that cool in the form of a soft cotton T-Shirt—made in the USA and screen-printed here in Brooklyn. The resulting lettering is offered in two limited-edition t-shirts. This classic Logo option, in either black or gray, as well as a quintessentially Bauhaus lockup in black only.
