Restoration Summary

1974 Ducati 750SS Engine# 075305 DM750.1

Below is a unique look inside the heart of the most famous motor produced in the 1970s, rebuilt by one of the last great bevel engine builders in the world. This is just a portion of the 450 photos taken during the engine rebuild process by master engine builder Hideki Fujikami.

The engine is the holy grail of the 750SS - extremely similar to that of the original 1972 Imola racers. While the paint and finishes on any 750SS are subject to the natural test of time, the engine is something of an immortal figure in comparison; with the right guidance and expertise, it can be given new life as we see here. This task is no normal feat as the engine work is highly specialized. For example, when original construction commenced at the Ducati factory, special machines were installed on-site just to produce the connecting rods. Many other parts are unique and specially crafted only for the 750SS, such as the reinforced covers, desmodromic cylinder heads, polished crankshaft, polished connecting rods, and rockers arms.

This was the first opportunity in the world for anyone to have such an incredible machine on the road. Designer and engineer, Fabio Taglioni, personally supervised all 400 of the machines produced.

The 750SS motor is a true work of art…
