SOLD

frame #17172, engine #17172, 1,239 original miles

Extremely original 1974 Laverda 750 SFC. This example has its original gel coat paint, its original zinc coating on the frame, its original Vitaloni mirror on the fairing, and all factory-correct components. It includes both exhausts (2 into 1 race exhaust on bike and factory 2 into 2 in the spares pile) and a rare and reportedly complete set of original factory Laverda tools.

At only approx 541 units produced, the Laverda SFC is one of the best bikes for your buck, that you can collect and ride! It is a street-legal factory race bike that pumps out approx. 70HP—it's fun, fast, and vicious. The SFC is the pinnacle of 70's Italian sport bikes—it hits all the marks and it’s built like a tank. This is the closest bike in feel to a Lamborghini Miura. Don’t trust anyone who says these beasts don’t idle and they’re high-strung.

At this point, Moto Borgotaro has owned, bought, and sold more SFC Laverda’s than just about anyone in the world. Each one is slightly unique with its own story. This is important to mention because this particular SFC stands as the most original example we have ever had.

Ownership…

1974-1981 - Sold new by T.T. Motors in Berkeley, CA, and was traded back to them and re-sold to the next owner (below), based on a few things:

1) The local Berkeley Laverda dealer back in the day was T.T. Motors

2) The next owner (below) was given his motorcycle paperwork in a folder from T.T. Motors (this is still present with the bike)

2) The license plate surround is from T.T. Motors (still on the bike)

It has been said that T.T. Motors had a 750SFC in their showroom on display “for years”.  This has led me to consider that perhaps the bike was never sold until 1981 to Chris (below) with zero miles. This theory would help explain why there are so few miles on the bike, but there is nothing definitive to back this up.

Continued…

1981-1992 - Chris Christianson, Berkeley, CA.  Copy of pink slip and early registrations, copy of the local newspaper ad advertising the bike for sale in 1992.  When advertised in 1992, the seller said it was “stored for 7 years”.  I assume this meant that it was stored by him from 1985-1992, further supporting the low mileage.  Also - it is possible he meant it was stored from 1974-1981…

1992-2021 - Donald Lemelin of San Francisco, CA.  Don owned a motorcycle dealer and repair shop called Scuderia West and was in a position to properly care for the bike.  He rode it extremely sparingly, stored it indoors, and kept it in excellent condition. The bike was featured in a 3-page article in Rider Magazine in April of 2006 entitled “The Beast - the 1974 Laverda 750 SFC Twin”.  Don regularly started the bike by hanging an “IV bag” of gas above the bike directly into the carbs.

2021-2022 - Purchased from Don and owned by our cliient.
