Under the TT2's fairings lay the heart of a pure factory racer—an 81mm x 85mm Pantah engine. While boasting a moderate 10:1 compression ratio, this powerplant featured larger valves controlled by Ducati's renowned desmodromic camshafts, enhancing its breathing capacity. Weight-saving innovations included exposed camshafts, a magnesium primary drive cover, and a hydraulically operated clutch. Even the gears bore witness to Ducati's commitment to lightness, with most being meticulously drilled. In 1983, Ducati took a further step by fitting a larger 41mm Malossi modified smooth bore carburetor, elevating the claimed horsepower to an impressive 78bhp at 10,500rpm.
